Cabinet making and joinery

Joinery made by the studio that drew it.

Built for the room, not the catalogue

Dark stained timber staircase with a panelled under-stair face against a soft pink wall, books along the landing edge and the kitchen range left.

We are cabinet makers as well as designers. Fitted wardrobes, kitchens, libraries, alcove units and panelling, made to measure in our own workshop in London and fitted by the people who built them.

No two rooms share the same dimensions, and older houses rarely have a straight wall. Off the shelf furniture leaves gaps, misses the alcove and stops short of the ceiling. Bespoke joinery is drawn around the room as it actually is: the chimney breast, the beam, the awkward corner under the stairs.

Alcove shelving filled with books arranged by colour, above fitted cupboards beside a marble fireplace

It is also drawn around how you live. Where the coats go, what needs hiding, which shelf you reach for every morning. That is the part a catalogue cannot know.

What we make

Walnut fitted wardrobes filling a dressing room wall, with a caned lounge chair and green checked throw centred in front and a tall mirror left.

Fitted wardrobes, planned inside as carefully as out. Kitchens and larder cupboards. Media units with the cables hidden, home offices and built-in desks, bookcases and display cabinets, window seats, alcove units, under-stair storage and hallway joinery, bathroom vanities and mirror cabinets.

Freestanding pieces too: sideboards, dining tables, beds and headboards, with upholstery by the upholsterers we work with. See bespoke furniture and upholstery.

The detail inside

Tall dark timber larder standing open, its door racks and shelves stocked with jars and packets, drawers below and a fridge alongside.

A cabinet is judged every day by how it opens. We plan the inside around what it will hold, then choose the hardware to suit: push to open, soft close, or a handle you want to hold.

Larder cupboard open to reveal a bright yellow painted interior, with oak spice racks fitted to the inside of the door

Painted MDF, oak veneer, walnut or birch ply, painted in any RAL or Farrow & Ball colour, or matched to a wall, a floor or a piece you already have.

Close detail of a leather pull loop fixed to a pale cabinet door, with fluted glass out of focus behind it.

Lighting built in, cables routed and charging points where you need them. And for a finer finish, framed fronts, shadow gaps, panelling and inlay, or bookmatched veneers, where the grain runs across the doors as one piece of timber.

How a commission runs

Consultation. We visit, or work from your plans, and talk through what the joinery has to do and how you want it to look.

Design. You receive a design pack: 3D visuals, technical drawings, sample boards for finishes and handles, and itemised costs with lead times. Nothing is made until you have agreed it.

Making. Everything is made by hand in our workshop, with traditional methods alongside modern machinery.

Fitting. Our own team delivers and installs it, and checks the alignment, the finish and the fit before we call it done.

Joinery for trade

We make joinery for interior designers, architects and developers as well as for our own clients. Send us drawings, or bring us in early and we will detail the joinery with you. Either way you deal with the people making it, and we work alongside your contractors, decorators and site team.

From a single piece to every fitted room in a house or a run of new builds.

Questions we are often asked

Can you match my existing furniture?

Yes. We colour match finishes and can repeat details from pieces you already have.

Do you install it?

Yes. Our own team delivers and fits everything we make.

Can lighting and charging be built in?

Yes. LED lighting, charging points and cable management are regular parts of the work.

Do I need to use you for the interior design as well?

No. Many clients come to us for joinery alone.

Where do you work?

Mostly London. Our showroom is inside Joyn Kitchens, 5 Hackney Road.
